Feng Shui and House Numbers

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

Numbers are an integral part of our everyday life. On a day to day basis, we use numbers for measurement and quantity. Some people consider numbers as another form of communication.

Numbers can communicate to us how long, wide or deep an area is. On a more personal level, numbers tell us what something is worth to us.

In Feng Shui, we use it as a tool to tap into the home’s energy.

As in numerology, the numbers 1 thorough 9 are used. Each number has its own energy, and when applied to our home helps in our development and growth. The house numbers are reduced to a single digit after adding them together. Using the address 566 as an example, will result in:  5+6+6 = 17 = 1+7 = 8.

In Feng Shui, some numbers are considered luckier than others, like the numbers 1,4,6,8. Because of their meaning, most Asians and Feng Shui enthusiasts will incorporate lucky numbers in their business and personal life to bring forth the energy they seek. The number 88, for example, is the symbol of Double Happiness.  It has been hand painted and carved in vases since the Ming Dynasty in Chinese Characters. This symbol can be placed in the bedroom, family room, living room to enhance the energy of the space.

Every number has a corresponding Bagua or area on the octagonal energetic Feng Shui map. In Feng Shui we use the number in the area it corresponds to, along with the element and corresponding shape to enhance the space and create better luck for its residents. This is the way to gain greater access to beneficial energies. For example, using the element of Fire with the color Red and the number 9 is a great enhancement in the South area of the home that corresponds to Fame and Reputation. Because the number 9 enhances this area of the Bagua, and so does the color red and the element of fire. See description below.

Here are numbers and meanings according to Feng Shui;

#1 :  Career area. Representing new beginnings, personal growth, unobstructed flow and the journey.

#2 :  Relationship area.  Represents marriage, partnership, cooperation and balance.

#3 :  Family area.  Representing community, nutrition, health, healing and strength.

#4 :  Wealth area.  Representing abundance, gratitude, security, stability and opportunity.

#5 :  Center area.  Representing resourcefulness and adventure.

#6 :  Helpful People area.  Represents being patient and calm, synchronicity and travel.

#7 :  Children and Creativity area.  Represents contemplation and self evaluation, the inner child and joy.

#8 :  Knowledge and Self Cultivation area.  Represents infinity, abundance, wisdom and stillness.

#9 :  Fame and Reputation area.  Being the highest number, it represents accomplishment, integrity and recognition.

Using the above example of the house with the 56 address ending with a single digit #2, we will interpret its meaning. A number 2 house would enable the residents to enjoy relationships. Going forward, relationships are a great way to acquiring wealth.

For another example, one of the features of a number 6 house would have the residents traveling more.

A number 1 house will have the residents concentrating more on career matters.

Enjoy using the meanings of house numbers by checking neighbors, friends and family members homes. This exercise is especially meaningful when using it on homes that you’ve lived in before. Can you see what the energy of the home is?
